Climb Aboard a Crabbing Charter in the Chesapeake Bay!
Spend a morning with Captain Frank aboard his crabbing charter in the Chesapeake Bay! Your family will receive an introduction to the crabbing process as well as the chance to catch some yummy Maryland Blue Crab. This family outing on the water is sure to be a memorable experience!
Where: Arnold, Maryland (near Annapolis)
Age: All ages are welcome aboard. Please keep in mind that the boat is not baby-proofed and the gear may not be suitable for smaller children. That said, smaller children love to watch the action!
Tour Info: Captain Frank will teach you everything you need to know for a successful crabbing charter. Your family will learn to lay out a traditional Chesapeake trotline, a 1,200 foot line that rests on the bottom of the bay with bait attached at intervals of six feet. You’ll then “run” the trotline and dip a net into the water to collect any crabs on the line. Once you’ve caught your bushel of crab, you’ll help with “culling,” the art of sorting and sizing your crab catch. You’ll be able to take home what you catch and prepare your own crab feast!
Crabbing charters run in the mornings (7 AM-12 PM) from June-October. Charters need to be booked in advance and are for private groups of up to six people (groups will not be mixed). Contact Down Time Charters for rates. The cost will include the license for one bushel of crabs. All equipment, line, and bait will also be provided.

Bonus: Summertime is great for bottom fishing for perch, spot, and hardhead. If time and energy permit, Captain Frank will include this on your tour!
