Be an Astronaut for a Day at Family Astronaut Training!
If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring space, family astronaut training at Kennedy Space Center is for you! This interactive half-day experience combines hands-on training activities with mission simulations led by space flight experts. This Astronaut Training Experience was created with input from NASA astronauts and will give you a behind the scenes look at how NASA missions are completed!
Where: Cape Canaveral, Florida
Ages: The Family Astronaut Training Experience (ATX) is for ages 7+. Families with older children (14+) may prefer ATX Core. Children younger than 7 can tour the Space Center or witness a rocket launch.
Class Info: For families with younger children, Family ATX will show you how astronauts and mission control work together during NASA missions. You’ll start in a Q&A session where you can ask a real NASA astronaut all of your burning space travel questions! After Q&A, your family will ride spaceflight training simulators and build and launch your own rockets. You’ll then participate as Crew Members in a full scale space shuttle mission to the International Space Station.
For families participating in ATX Core, you’ll attempt different exercises that astronauts complete while training for space travel. After a Q&A session with a NASA astronaut, you’ll practice landing the space shuttle and try out 3 different simulators that show you what it feels like to walk on the moon, be weightless in space, and spin and twirl in their Multi-Axis Trainer. Once you’ve been sufficiently trained, you’ll finish your experience by working as a crew member either in the full-scale shuttle simulator or outfitted mission control room. You’ll work together in a simulated space shuttle mission to perform repair work on the International Space Station.
ATX Core is held on Saturdays and Family ATX is held on Sundays. Both take place from 8:30 AM- 1:30 PM at their ATX Center, six miles west of Kennedy Space Center’s Visitor Complex. Tickets are $175 per adult and $169 per child and include admission to Kennedy Space Center (price is $145 per person without admission). Advanced reservations are required and some height and weight restrictions may apply. Both family astronaut training programs include ATX gear, snacks and beverages, a photo op with an astronaut, and a certificate of completion!
Contact Info: Call 866-737-5235 to make your reservation.
Bonus: Check their event schedule to time your visit to coincide with a rocket launch!
