Go Sea Kayaking in Alaska and Explore Glaciers and Wildlife!
Going sea kayaking in Alaska will give your family the chance to see wildlife, paddle through floating chunks of glacier ice, explore pristine fjords, and roam through the coastal rainforest. Kayak Adventures Worldwide loves taking kids kayaking, and they’ll upgrade your family to a private tour with no additional charge!
Where: Seward, Alaska
Age: The minimum age for kayaking is 6.
Tour Info: Kayak Adventures Worldwide offers both half-day and full-day adventures to go sea kayaking in Alaska. The half-day tour is great for families with younger children as it has a flexible itinerary with lots of beaches for exploring. Your guide will customize your trip based on the pace of your family and teach you all about the history of the area, the wildlife, plants, and the seashore area. Along the way, you can stop to wander through the coastal rainforest, see salmon swimming a shallow creek, or swing by a 90′ waterfall!
For more adventurous families, try out the Aialik Glacier day trip. This trip starts with a 2-hour water taxi ride out to Aialik Bay. Your guide and captain will teach you all about the area as you watch for whales, sea lions, mountain goats, sea otters, and other wildlife from the boat. Once you are in the fjords, your family will be dropped off on a beach and you’ll spend about 3 hours kayaking to Aialik glacier. Along the way, you’ll paddle through floating ice chunks and spot curious harbor seals. You may even see a black bear wandering along the coastline! Your water taxi will pick you up again in the late afternoon, and you’ll have another 2 hours to search for wildlife on you ride home.
If you have children under the age of 14, Kayak Adventures Worldwide will provide your family with a private guided tour. This will allow your family to paddle at your own pace and let your kids explore the things that they are excited about. You will need to pay for a 3-person minimum, but otherwise it’s the same cost as the regular trip!
No kayaking experience is necessary for either tour as your guide will teach you everything you need to know before leaving the beach. The half-day tour is $75 per person and is about 4 hours long, with tour times in the morning, afternoon, and evening (the water is often most calm in the morning). The full-day tour is $399 per person and leaves at 7:15am. Wear synthetic layers of clothing, a rain coat, rain pants, and shoes that will keep your feet warm (even if they get a little wet). Rain gear is available for rent at their shop. Both kayaking trips include a small snack, hot drinks, and juice. Full-day trips also include lunch. Advanced reservations are recommended to ensure that a guide is available for your tour.
