Prepare Swahili Cuisine in Tanzania
Learning to prepare a local cuisine while on vacation is a great way to bring a bit of that culture back home with you! You can immerse yourself in the local tastes and smells of Tanzania by taking a Swahili cooking class. Swahili cuisine (typically found in Eastern Africa), uses lots of spices and has African, Indian, and Middle Eastern influences. This cooking class can teach you how to combine these spices to eat and cook like the locals in Zanzibar!
Where: Zanzibar, Tanzania
Age: All ages are welcome to participate.
Tour Info: The half day Swahili cooking class will start at 9:00am, when Zanzibar Palm Tours will pick you up from your hotel and bring you to a local village called Fuoni. You will start out at a local market, where your chef will help you gather necessary ingredients in your mkoba (traditional bag). From there you’ll go to a local Swahili kitchen and your chef will teach you make a local cuisine. Popular dishes include mchuzi (a curried fish), maandazi (a coconut donut), and vipopoo (a dumpling dessert). At the end of the class, you’ll eat what you’ve prepared!
Classes are taught by English-speaking local chefs. The cost will depend on where you are being picked up. This class is offered upon request, by appointment only.
